Are there a set of rules that teachers must follow ?

Q1. What is EigoPass?
EigoPass is a full service English education introduction company that helps teachers in Japan find job opportunities teaching English. We specialize in arranging private and semi-private lessons for students hoping to learn English with knowledgeable and experienced teachers.

Q2. How much does it cost to register with EigoPass?

Registration is completely free. EigoPass is not a service where your information is sold or exchanged over the Internet after you submit your profile. Rather, we use your confidential information only to help find students that match your background and teaching qualifications. We do everything from contacting the student to arranging your trial lesson. We only ask that you make 15-20 minutes available for the trial lesson period.

Q3. Do I get paid for trial lessons?
Teachers do not get paid for trial lessons. This trial lesson is an investment of both your time and ours so that students can feel comfortable with a no obligation opportunity to learn more about our company and you. Most trial lessons are successful so it is a good investment of your time.

Q4. How can I prepare for trial lessons?
We have found that teachers who come prepared with writing material and some knowledge of the student's learning goals and English level beforehand do quite well in getting students. Some teachers go a step further by printing a simple form with the students background information, learning goals, English level, and desired lesson times. We have noticed this little preparation technique highly effective, which is why we give you as much information about the student as possible.

Q5. How long do trial lessons usually run?
Trial lessons can run anywhere from 15 minutes to as long as 30 minutes. It really varies since different teachers have their own style of introducing themselves and learning about a students learning objectives. The focus of these "trial" lessons are for you to market your teaching skills to the students and understand their English level.

Q6. Should I exchange my contact information during the trial lesson?
No. Contact information should NOT be exchanged during trial lessons. We will inform you of the student's contact information when the student enrolls with us.

Q7. Can I register with EigoPass if I am not currently in Japan?
No. You should already be in Japan with a valid phone number and address before registering with us.

Q8. What qualifications do you look for in a teacher?
To apply, teachers should meet the following minimum requirements: some teaching experience, college graduate, native speakers of the English language, and proper working visa

Q9. Does EigoPass require me to sign a yearly employment contract?
Although we don't ask teachers to sign a fixed yearly employment contract, we do ask that you sign a form that you will adhere to our rules. We also ask that you notify us at least 30 days prior if you do not wish to teach with us so that we have adequate time to find new teachers for your students.

Q10. How many students can I hope to get from EigoPass?
We try our best to distribute students fairly among our teachers. However, due to supply and demand of students and teachers, it is difficult to determine accurately how many students you will receive. Many variables such as teaching location, times, experience, duration in Japan, timeliness, visa status, etc... are taken into account. Teachers with high trial lesson success rates, professional work ethic, and reliability to EigoPass will be given precedent for new students.

Q11. What will increase my chances of getting more students?

Teachers that work with us who show a strong work ethic, prepare for lessons and trial lessons, and get good feedback from their current students get priority for new students.

Q12. What should I wear for lessons?
We do not require you to wear business atire. Business casual or casual wear should be fine.

Q13. What should I do if I need to cancel a lesson?
In the event that you need to cancel a lesson, please notify the student as early as possible via email/phone. If you need to cancel on the same day as the lesson, a phone call would be better as some students don't check their emails often.

Q14. What is your cancellation policy?
We use a 24 hour cancellation policy for lesson cancellations that apply for both teachers and students. Please refer to our lesson fee page HERE for more details.

Q15. What should I do if a student is late arriving to the lesson at the agreed time?

If the student calls notifying you that he/she is going to be late, please wait. However, you are only obligated to teach the student for the remainder of the time that is left from the agreed lesson schedule.

If the student doesn't call to inform that he/she is going to be late, you are free to leave after waiting 20 minutes. This will count as a cancelled lesson on the part of the student.

Q16. How do I get students?
We will contact you via email/phone when a student registers who fits your teaching background. A trial lesson would then be set up for the student to meet you and decide if you are a compatible teacher.

Q17. Is my information sold over the Internet?
No. We will not distribute, publish, or sell your information over the Internet.

Q18. How is EigoPass different from other introduction services?

We offer total support for our teachers and students. Everything from contacting the student to arranging the trial lessons will be done by us. Should any problems arise, we are always there to help to answer your questions . We also focus on only English education as that is the one and only focus of our organization.

Q19. Do you provide visa sponsorship for teachers?
We do not directly hire teachers since we are only an intermediary introduction company to help teachers find private students to teach. For this reason, teachers who work for EigoPass should already possess valid working visas.

Q20. How much do I get paid?
Teachers receive 3000yen/hour for private lessons and 4000yen/hour for semi private lessons with 2 students (2000yen each student per hour). Please see our lesson fee page for more details HERE.

Q21. Are lesson fees negotiable?
Lesson fees are fixed and are non negotiable. High lesson fees sway students from taking lessons while low lesson fees are not fair to teachers. By fixing our lesson fees, we make a system whereby both teachers and students benefit.

Q22. How do I get paid?
Students pay teachers at the end of each lesson. Teachers should not ask students to pay for lessons in advance.

Q23. What should I do about taxes?
Each teacher is responsible for reporting their own taxes according to Japanese law. Information regarding taxes can be found in our links section.

Q24. Will I be required to travel for lessons?
No. We assign students based onthe convenient locations that you listed to teach when you submitted your application to us. Naturally, teachers who list more locations can in essence get more students.

Q25. Do I have to have to pay for a student's drink during cafe lessons?
No. Teachers and students are responsible for their own drinks.

Q26. Are there a set of rules that teachers must follow ?
Although we don't like to set endless rules for our teachers, we do have a few basic rules which we ask teachers to abide by. Most of them are common knowledge and can be viewed in our Teacher's RuleBook section.
